WHEREAS, 100WomenStrong is a highly regarded nonprofit philanthropic organization that harnesses financial strength and philanthropy to improve the quality of life for the people of Loudoun County; and

WHEREAS, in 2008, a group of women in Loudoun County made a commitment to use their financial resources to help address shelter, health, hunger, and education issues in the county; they formed 100WomenStrong as a nonprofit organization that would provide funds to help meet the needs of less fortunate members of the community; and

WHEREAS, since 100WomenStrong was founded, it has provided financial assistance of more than $1 million; the group awards grants to nonprofit organizations that help people in need in Loudoun County; and

WHEREAS, in 2015, 100WomenStrong awarded grants to All Ages Read Together, Dulles South Food Pantry, Healthworks, Women Giving Back/Home Aid NoVA, Loudoun Citizens for Social Justice/Loudoun Abused Women’s Shelter (LAWS), the Loudoun Education Foundation, Loudoun Volunteer Caregivers, and other nonprofit groups; and

WHEREAS, 100WomenStrong was created as a component fund of the Community Foundation for Loudoun and Northern Fauquier Counties, a charitable giving and community investment organization; the women who started 100WomenStrong were convinced that people in the community who were more fortunate could gather resources to support existing charitable organizations; and

WHEREAS, in following its mission to enhance the lives of the citizens of Loudoun County and provide strategic support to help address shelter, health, hunger, and education in the county, 100WomenStrong has made a significant impact, resulting in positive changes; and

WHEREAS, the outstanding work of 100WomenStrong exemplifies the dedication and willingness to help people in need that is shown by many Virginians; the group knew that poverty and need exist even in the most affluent areas, and their generosity has helped thousands of their neighbors in countless ways; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend 100WomenStrong for its philanthropy and commitment to addressing shelter, health, hunger, and education issues affecting the people of Loudoun County; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Karen Schaufeld, president and founder of 100WomenStrong, as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect and admiration for its dedication to improving the quality of life for the citizens of Loudoun County and for setting an outstanding example for all Virginians.
