Commending the McLean Community Foundation.

WHEREAS, in 2016, the McLean Community Foundation proudly celebrates its 35th anniversary of generously supporting a variety of nonprofit efforts that benefit the residents of McLean in many ways; and

WHEREAS, the McLean Community Foundation’s origins date to 1978, when the McLean Citizens Association used the proceeds from the sale of five acres of land to establish a charitable foundation whose purpose was to benefit the people of McLean; and

WHEREAS, the McLean Community Foundation, which elected nine trustees and was incorporated in 1980, issued its first challenge grant in 1981, the same year that the foundation received a federal tax exemption; and

WHEREAS, since its founding, the McLean Community Foundation has supported amenities and services that benefit the people of the area and improve the region’s quality of life; over the years, the foundation has funded fire trucks, playgrounds, hospice beds, arts programs, and many other worthwhile efforts; and

WHEREAS, the funds and grants that the McLean Community Foundation provides help the people of McLean in large and small ways; the entire community benefited when funds from the foundation made it possible for the McLean Volunteer Fire Department’s rescue vehicle to be outfitted with state-of-the-art equipment; and

WHEREAS, other community organizations that have received grants or funds from the McLean Community Foundation include schools, playgrounds, senior services organizations, arts initiatives, and Share, Inc., an emergency assistance and outreach organization; all were funded with the goal of helping others and ensuring that McLean retains the quality of life that its residents have come to treasure; and

WHEREAS, through its unceasing philanthropic efforts, the McLean Community Foundation has successfully advanced the civic, educational, and social interests of the community and has supported the many events and activities that make its citizens and businesses proud to call McLean home; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the McLean Community Foundation on the occasion of its 35th anniversary of generously supporting nonprofit efforts that benefit the residents of McLean; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the McLean Community Foundation as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect and admiration for its dedicated work and generous philanthropy on behalf of the people of McLean.
