HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 355
Commending the Atlee High School softball team.

WHEREAS, the Atlee High School softball team claimed its first state title since 2002, winning the Virginia High School League Group 5A state championship on June 13, 2015; and

WHEREAS, the Atlee High School Raiders defeated the Hickory High School Hawks by a score of 3 - 0 in the state final, which was held at Robinson Secondary School; and

WHEREAS, with two outs and bases loaded in the top of the sixth inning, Laura Kate Moss, a designated hitter, popped one out to left center to bring in Raine Wilson, Jordan Durbin, and Kelly Warren for the game’s only scores; and

WHEREAS, Peyton St. George, pitcher for Atlee High School, had nine strike-outs, including the final out to clinch the victory; and

WHEREAS, head coach John Earley, who retired at the end of the season after 15 years of able leadership, recorded his first state championship win as a head coach; and

WHEREAS, with only one graduating player, the Atlee High School Raiders are poised to continue their success; and

WHEREAS, throughout the season, the student-athletes of the Atlee High School softball team demonstrated determination and perseverance and benefited from the guidance of the coaches and staff and the enthusiastic support of the entire Atlee High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Atlee High School softball team on winning the Virginia High School League Group 5A state championship in 2015; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Atlee High School softball team as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the team’s hard work and skill.
