16105667DWHEREAS, in 2016, First United Methodist Church celebrates its 100th anniversary of providing opportunities for fellowship and worship to the residents of Hopewell and the Tri-City area; and
WHEREAS, First United Methodist Church has been an important part of the City of Hopewell for the past 100 years; in 1937 the members of Trinity Methodist Church of City Point joined the congregation at its present location on the corner of Broadway and Sixth Avenue; and
WHEREAS, First United Methodist Church has contributed to the City of Hopewell and the surrounding community by enriching the day-to-day lives of its citizens through many civic and community activities; and
WHEREAS, First United Methodist Church remains one of the stabilizing factors that make the Hopewell community a welcoming place to live and raise a family; and
WHEREAS, the many ministries of First United Methodist Church have reached and touched the lives of countless citizens of the City of Hopewell; and
WHEREAS, through its many community efforts, First United Methodist Church has helped to make the City of Hopewell a better place for all its citizens to live; and
WHEREAS, First United Methodist Church commemorates its 100th anniversary with two days of celebrations on April 23 and April 24, 2016; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend First United Methodist Church on the occasion of its 100th anniversary of service to its congregation and the community; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to First United Methodist Church as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for its contributions to the City of Hopewell and the Tri-City area.
