HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 342
Commending New Deliverance Evangelistic Church.

WHEREAS, for 20 years, New Deliverance Evangelistic Church has served the Chesterfield County community by providing opportunities for joyful worship, facilitating close relationships with Jesus Christ, and conducting generous outreach; and

WHEREAS, New Deliverance Evangelistic Church traces its roots to 1995, when Bishop Gerald O. Glenn developed the church with the support of Deliverance Evangelistic Church in Philadelphia; with more than 800 parishioners in attendance, the church held its first service in the auditorium of George Wythe High School in January 1996; and

WHEREAS, New Deliverance Evangelistic Church purchased land on Turner Road in Chesterfield County for the construction of a sanctuary and moved into its new home on July 21, 1998; and

WHEREAS, in 1999, New Deliverance Evangelistic Church established the New Deliverance Christian Academy to provide quality, affordable education to local children; the academy has grown to serve pre-kindergarten through fourth-grade students; and

WHEREAS, New Deliverance Evangelistic Church has worked closely with civil rights organizations, community leaders, other faith groups, and local residents to strengthen Chesterfield County as a loving and tolerant community; and

WHEREAS, demonstrating leadership throughout the Commonwealth and the nation, New Deliverance Evangelistic Church organized the New Deliverance Fellowship Conference of Churches and Bishop Glenn served as chief apostle for the Pastors for Family Values of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, with a host of ministries, prayer meetings, and Sunday school, New Deliverance Evangelistic Church has helped countless members of the Chesterfield County community feel the power of faith and find a sense of belonging; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend New Deliverance Evangelistic Church on the occasion of its 20th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Bishop Gerald O. Glenn, senior pastor of New Deliverance Evangelistic Church, as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the church’s legacy of service to the Chesterfield County community.
