2016 SESSION
16105351DWHEREAS, Michael Dean Tuck of South Boston, a respected firefighter and first responder who dedicated his life to serving and safeguarding his fellow members of the Halifax County community, died on January 31, 2016; and
WHEREAS, a native of South Boston, Michael “Mike” Dean Tuck joined the South Boston Fire Department as a junior firefighter in 1968 at the age of 16; driven by his desire to help and serve others, he was a loyal member of the department and became a regular volunteer with the South Boston Volunteer Fire Company; and
WHEREAS, in 1975, Mike Tuck became a professional employee of the South Boston Fire Department and rose through the ranks to become captain; he touched countless lives and built a legacy of excellence over the course of his 50-year career in fire service; and
WHEREAS, Mike Tuck passed his wisdom and experience on to a new generation of firefighters and first responders as a teacher and trainer at the Virginia Department of Fire Programs and at Southside Virginia Community College in Keysville; and
WHEREAS, Mike Tuck was also a life member of the Halifax County Rescue Squad, where he served for 44 years and became a lieutenant and vice president; and
WHEREAS, predeceased by one son, Jason, Mike Tuck will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Elizabeth; son, Chris, and his family; his mother; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Michael Dean Tuck; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Michael Dean Tuck as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
