Commending Bob May.

WHEREAS, Bob May of Bridgewater admirably served as a member of the Rockingham County School Board from 2012 through 2015, listening carefully to the issues that came before the board, and providing sound advice and guidance; and

WHEREAS, the four-year term that Bob May served on the Rockingham County School Board was the second time he served the school district; he was an employee of the Rockingham County Public Schools for 37 years, having started as an elementary school teacher in 1964, and retiring in 2001 as assistant superintendent for administration; and

WHEREAS, Bob May’s extensive experience in many areas of the Rockingham County Public School division’s operation helped guide his decisions when he was a member of the school board; he was a teacher, school social worker, principal, maintenance director, and assistant superintendent; and

WHEREAS, Bob May represented District 4 as a member of the Rockingham County School Board; during his tenure, the board addressed the school system’s grading scale, dress code, a climate survey, the security of vestibules in school buildings, budgeting, and anti-bullying measures; and

WHEREAS, the Bridgewater resident derived great satisfaction from serving the people of Rockingham County as a member of the school board; Bob May considered his greatest accomplishments to be the digital conversion initiative and improved relations between administrators and teachers; and

WHEREAS, in addition to his deep knowledge of the Rockingham County Public Schools, Bob May also is known for his professional and congenial demeanor and for being respectful to all with whom he worked; and

WHEREAS, Bob May is considered by his colleagues and friends to be a true Southern gentleman who cared about those around him; he encouraged his fellow members, and his successor, to continue to work to understand the people in the school system and to cherish the school division’s strengths and values; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Bob May for his dedication and service as a member of the Rockingham County School Board and his 41-year career with the Rockingham County Public Schools; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Bob May as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect and admiration for his selfless dedication and devotion to the Rockingham County Public Schools.
