HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 26
Celebrating the life of Sharon Smith Hembree.

WHEREAS, Sharon Smith Hembree of Abingdon, a devoted wife and mother, a nurse, an avid horsewoman, and a world traveler, died on August 28, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Sharon “Sherry” Smith Hembree was a dedicated nurse who worked for several private medical practices and the Washington County Health Department; she also was a nurse at Greendale Elementary School and Abingdon Elementary School; and

WHEREAS, in addition to her work in medicine, Sherry Hembree enjoyed horseback riding, and she also derived great satisfaction from exploring different countries as a world traveler; and

WHEREAS, Sherry Hembree’s roots in Southwest Virginia run deep; she was the daughter of the late Jewell “Judy” Garland Smith and Jack Smith, who founded K-VA-T Food Stores, which is the parent company of Food City; and

WHEREAS, Sherry Hembree will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by Thomas, her husband of 27 years; children, Drew and Melanie, and their families; and many family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Sharon Smith Hembree of Abingdon, a devoted wife and mother, a nurse, an avid horsewoman, and a world traveler; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Sharon Smith Hembree as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
