2016 SESSION
WHEREAS, Marshall W. Butler, Jr., who worked diligently to increase the quality of life of countless Virginians with developmental disabilities, retired as chief executive officer of Greater Richmond ARC in 2015, after nearly four decades of service; and
WHEREAS, Greater Richmond ARC provides innovative services and programs to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families to help them lead fuller lives and become active members of their communities; Marshall Butler has served as chief executive officer of the organization for 37 years; and
WHEREAS, under Marshall Butler’s leadership, Greater Richmond ARC expanded existing programs, developed year-round respite programs and after-school care, and facilitated employment opportunities in a variety of work settings; and
WHEREAS, Marshall Butler oversaw the construction of ARCenter, the organization’s state-of-the-art headquarters, in 2010 and the creation of ARCpark, an adjoining 2.4-acre outdoor recreational facility, in 2014; and
WHEREAS, an outstanding leader, Marshall Butler touched countless lives through his efforts to support children and adults with developmental disabilities, and he leaves a legacy of excellence to his successor as chief executive officer; and
WHEREAS, after his well-earned retirement, Marshall Butler will seek new opportunities to serve the community and continue to offer his sage guidance to Greater Richmond ARC in a consulting role; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Marshall W. Butler, Jr., on the occasion of his retirement as chief executive officer of Greater Richmond ARC; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Marshall W. Butler, Jr., as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for his exceptional stewardship of Greater Richmond ARC and devoted service to individuals with developmental disabilities in the Commonwealth.
