16103739DWHEREAS, the Mills E. Godwin girls’ tennis team of Henrico County claimed its 10th state title, winning the Virginia High School League Group 5A state championship in June 2015; and
WHEREAS, playing in their 14th consecutive state championship, the Mills E. Godwin High School Eagles defeated a talented team from George C. Marshall High School 5 - 3 at Huntington Park in Newport News; and
WHEREAS, Keerthana Shankar claimed a singles victory, and Anna Sidhu and Morgan Fuqua finished the season undefeated in singles competition, securing victories to keep the score level at 3 - 3 at the start of doubles play; and
WHEREAS, Anna Sidhu and Elizabeth Dudley and Morgan Fuqua and Ara McCarty were victorious in doubles matches to give the Mills E. Godwin High School Eagles the win; and
WHEREAS, each of the student-athletes on the Mills Godwin High School girls’ tennis team displayed dedication and resolve throughout the season to achieve victory; the team benefited from the able leadership of the coaches and staff and the enthusiastic support of the entire school community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Mills E. Godwin High School girls’ tennis team on winning the 2015 Virginia High School League Group 5A state championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Mark Seidenberg, head coach of the Mills E. Godwin High School girls’ tennis team, as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the team’s achievements and best wishes for the future.
