HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 20
Commending the Kettle Run High School competition cheer team.

WHEREAS, the Kettle Run High School competition cheer team claimed its first state title in school history when it won the 2015 Virginia High School League Group 4A competition cheer championship on November 7; and

WHEREAS, with the victory, the cheer team from Nokesville in Fauquier County becomes the first girls’ sports team at Kettle Run High School to win a state title, defeating a talented squad from William Byrd High School, 224.5 to 218.5; and

WHEREAS, the members of the Kettle Run Cougars cheer team started the season with high expectations; the enthusiastic and hardworking group had finished in fourth place at the Virginia High School League Group 3A contest in 2014; and

WHEREAS, at the state championship, which was held in Richmond, the members of the Fauquier County High School team started out strong; during the first round, the Cougars had only a two-point deduction for their routine; and

WHEREAS, although the pressure remained high during the tournament, which was held at the Siegel Center, the Kettle Run High School cheer team performed flawlessly in round two, with no deductions; and

WHEREAS, the head coach of the Kettle Run team, Joann Shipe, knew the group was a top contender for the state title based on their talent and discipline; for the last six years, she has observed the cheer program grow and become stronger; and

WHEREAS, an ardent fan base and strong support from family, friends, and the entire school community all contributed to the Kettle Run High School competition cheer team’s successful 2015 championship season; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Kettle Run High School competition cheer team for winning the 2015 Virginia High School League Group 4A competition cheer championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to head coach Joann Shipe as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and admiration for the outstanding accomplishments of the Kettle Run High School competition cheer team.
