HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 209
Commending the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology.

WHEREAS, the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Fairfax County, one of the best high schools in the nation according to multiple national publications, was also named a prestigious Advanced Placement Honor Roll School Division winner for 2014 by the College Board; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, which was ranked the top school in the nation by Newsweek in 2015, was recognized by the College Board for its success in building its Advanced Placement programs while simultaneously increasing students’ performance on Advanced Placement tests; and

WHEREAS, the Advanced Placement program provides the opportunity for motivated high school students to take college-level courses in a high school setting, enabling students to develop the academic skills and discipline needed for college; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology was established in 1985; the magnet school offers a specialized education for selected students from the Cities of Fairfax and Falls Church and from the Counties of Fairfax, Arlington, Loudoun, and Prince William, which is the school division where Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology was designated an Honor Roll winner; and

WHEREAS, to be named to the Advanced Placement (AP) Honor Roll, the faculty, staff, and students at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology focused on increasing participation and success in the AP program, especially for underrepresented students; the school offers more than 20 AP courses; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology enrolls more than 1,800 students in grades nine through 12 and provides a challenging learning environment focused on math, science, and technology; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, one of the best high schools in the nation, for being named an Advanced Placement Honor Roll School Division winner for 2014; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Evan Glazer, principal of Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and admiration for the school’s outstanding accomplishments.
