2016 SESSION
WHEREAS, Wendell G. Peters, who served with diligence and distinction as clerk of the Circuit Court of Floyd County for 24 years, retired on December 31, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Wendell Peters became the circuit court clerk for Floyd County in 1992, and he attributed his training in accounting to helping him understand and maintain a complicated financial system and court record-keeping system; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure, Wendell Peters oversaw many improvements and changes to the clerk’s office, including the establishment of automated procedures for land transfers, deeds, marriage records, and wills; and
WHEREAS, while Wendell Peters was clerk of the Floyd County Circuit Court, the office received several grants for technological improvements; also, many court documents were preserved in digital format, allowing the public easier access to large amounts of information, either on site or remotely; and
WHEREAS, Wendell Peters acknowledged that the smooth and efficient operation of the clerk’s office during his tenure was due to many factors, including the generous assistance he received from his predecessor when he first took office; and
WHEREAS, the deputy clerks who assisted Wendell Peters consistently excelled in their work, providing courteous, effective, and efficient customer service; their efforts helped him meet the goals he set for the clerk’s office; and
WHEREAS, for Wendell Peters, serving the public has been an honor, and he appreciated working with the judges, law-enforcement officers, court personnel, attorneys, probation officers, and others whose work brought them to the Floyd County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Wendell G. Peters for his 24 years of dedicated service to the people of Floyd County as clerk of the circuit court; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Wendell G. Peters as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect and admiration for his commitment to the people of Floyd County and the Commonwealth.
