HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 182
Commending Keena Schuler Wood.

WHEREAS, Keena Schuler Wood of Lynchburg, an exceptional athlete who set multiple records in track and field at Broadway High School, was inducted into the Virginia High School Sports Hall of Fame with the Class of 2015; and

WHEREAS, over the course of her four years at Broadway High School, Keena Wood earned 21 individual indoor and outdoor track and field state titles; she won championships in the indoor 55-meter, 300-meter, and 500-meter events and the outdoor 100-meter, 200-meter, and 400-meter events; and

WHEREAS, Keena Wood led Broadway High School to a runner-up finish in the 1995 state championship meet, scoring all 30 of the team’s points; in 1997, she was named an All-American for her seventh-place finish in the 100-meter event at a national championship; and

WHEREAS, earning national accolades for her incredible talent, Keena Wood was chosen to represent the Commonwealth in a sports exchange program in Russia in 1994, and she was ranked as the top athlete in the 300-meter run by Track & Field in 1996; and

WHEREAS, Keena Wood earned a Division I scholarship to the University of Colorado, where she became a hurdler; she ranked fourth in the Big 12 Conference in the 400-meter hurdles during her junior and senior years and was a member of a championship distance medley team; and

WHEREAS, after college, Keena Wood worked to inspire young student-athletes as an assistant coach at Heritage High School in Lynchburg; she has imparted her love of running to her children, Ryleigh and Coleman; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Keena Schuler Wood on the occasion of her induction into the Virginia High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2015; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Keena Schuler Wood as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for her many achievements.
