16103764DWHEREAS, James E. Hargrave, while practicing as a professional accountant for over a half-century, including several decades for the Richmond, Fredericksburg, and Potomac (RF&P) Railroad, made time to serve his community as a volunteer rescue squad member; and
WHEREAS, James “Jim” E. Hargrave volunteered his services to the Forest View Volunteer Rescue Squad in September 1967; and
WHEREAS, Jim Hargrave served his community’s rescue squad in numerous positions, including as president during 1974 - 1975, as treasurer for nine terms, as a member of the Ambulance Committee, and as instructor of the Emergency Medical Technician Course; and
WHEREAS, Jim Hargrave was also a member of the Forest View Volunteer Rescue Squad’s First Aid Competition Team that in 1969 earned the first-place ranking among numerous teams from across the Commonwealth and which also earned first-place rankings in several similar competitions; and
WHEREAS, in September 1979, Jim Hargrave was elected treasurer of the Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads, subsequently held that office for four terms, and served, too, as a member and chair of the Association’s finance committee; and
WHEREAS, Jim Hargrave for several years taught the Rescue Squad Management Class at the Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads annual Rescue College; and
WHEREAS, in September 1985, Jim Hargrave was elected a life member of the Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads at the organization’s annual convention; and
WHEREAS, for both his professional accomplishments and contributions to his community Jim Hargrave has established a legacy of service that will remain as an enduring example to his family, friends, and fellow citizens; and
WHEREAS, Jim Hargrave passed away on December 6, 2015; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of James E. Hargrave, an exemplary volunteer who dedicated a lifetime of service to the people of Central Virginia; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of James E. Hargrave as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
