Commending Joe Grzeika.

WHEREAS, after more than 20 years of diligent service to the community, Joe Grzeika retired as a member of the King George County Board of Supervisors in 2015; and

WHEREAS, a native of Connecticut, Joe Grzeika served his country with the United States Navy; he was stationed at Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division in 1977, then relocated to the area permanently in 1980; and

WHEREAS, Joe Grzeika holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Mary Washington and is the founder and president of Joetech, LLC, a defense contracting and management consulting business in Dahlgren; and

WHEREAS, desirous to be of further service to the community, Joe Grzeika joined the King George County Planning Commission, where he served for three and a half years and became chair; he was elected as a county supervisor in 1995; and

WHEREAS, with his attention to detail, willingness to see both sides of an issue, and straightforward leadership style, Joe Grzeika helped strengthen and enhance the county by upgrading infrastructure and supporting sound fiscal practices; and

WHEREAS, during Joe Grzeika’s tenure as a supervisor, the county completed several new schools, upgraded fire and rescue services to better safeguard the growing community, built a new facility for the sheriff’s department, expanded the library, revitalized public parks, and consolidated sewer and water services into an efficient stand-alone enterprise; and

WHEREAS, Joe Grzeika and the King George County Board of Supervisors completed all of these enhancements without significant tax increases and earned a prestigious AA+ bond rating from Standard & Poor’s financial rating service; and

WHEREAS, deeply respected throughout the region, Joe Grzeika has offered his leadership and expertise to the Fredericksburg Regional Alliance, Rappahannock River Basin Commission, George Washington Regional Commission, Rappahannock Regional Jail Authority, Rappahannock Economic Development Corporation, Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Council, and Rappahannock United Way; and

WHEREAS, in November 2015, Joe Grzeika earned the American Patriot Award from Naval Support Activity South Potomac, which recognized his passionate advocacy for the base community and tireless support for its missions and activities; and

WHEREAS, Joe Grzeika plans to enjoy his retirement by spending time with his wife of 44 years, Anita, and their family, as well as finding new ways to serve and support the community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Joe Grzeika on the occasion of his retirement as a member of the King George County Board of Supervisors; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Joe Grzeika as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for his dedicated public service and best wishes for a happy retirement.
