2016 SESSION
WHEREAS, Ronnie D. Crockett, who served and protected the members of the Lancaster County community for nearly 32 years, retired as the Sheriff of Lancaster County in 2015; and
WHEREAS, a lifelong resident of Lancaster County and desirous to be of service to the community, Ronnie Crockett pursued a career in law enforcement to better the quality of life of all local residents; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure as sheriff, Ronnie Crockett ably adapted to considerable growth and change in the county; he ensured that the officers and staff of the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office received cutting-edge training and technology to keep themselves and the residents of the county safe; and
WHEREAS, Ronnie Crockett built strong relationships with county administrators, the board of supervisors, other local organizations, and citizens to ensure that the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office was best prepared to serve the public; highly respected in the law-enforcement field, he served as president of the Virginia Sheriffs’ Association in 2002 and 2003; and
WHEREAS, cultivating a longstanding sense of trust with the members of the community, Ronnie Crockett never lost an election and proudly became the second-longest-serving sheriff in the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Ronnie Crockett safeguarded the lives and property of his fellow residents as a life member of the White Stone Volunteer Fire Department; during his 26-year career, he served as treasurer for 10 years and president for two years; and
WHEREAS, a charter member of the local Kiwanis Club, Ronnie Crockett is a past president and former board member of the organization, with which he remains active; he is a past master of Lancaster Union No. 88 Masonic Lodge and former board member of the Lancaster Lions Club; and
WHEREAS, Ronnie Crockett also worked to strengthen and enhance the community as a board member of Court Appointed Special Advocates, former board member of Chesapeake Academy and the local Boys and Girls Club, and a coach and umpire for Little League baseball; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Ronnie D. Crockett on the occasion of his retirement as Sheriff of Lancaster County; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Ronnie D. Crockett as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for his diligent service to the Commonwealth and best wishes for a happy retirement.
