2016 SESSION
WHEREAS, in 2015, Bethel Baptist Church celebrated 175 years of generous outreach to the Yorktown community and joyful worship in the Baptist tradition; and
WHEREAS, established in 1840, Bethel Baptist Church was a stalwart witness to many historical events in York County; the church continued to grow throughout the years and welcomed a congregation of more than 1000 members in 2015; and
WHEREAS, Bethel Baptist Church partners with thousands of other churches in the Southern Baptist Convention and the Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia to spread the Word of God; and
WHEREAS, Bethel Baptist Church offers members of its congregations opportunities to volunteer their time and talents in various ministry groups, including men’s, women’s, children’s, military, and senior’s ministries; and
WHEREAS, Bethel Baptist Church also emphasizes the importance of education through its students and education ministry groups, as well as a weekday preschool program; and
WHEREAS, under the able leadership of the Reverend Doug Echols, Bethel Baptist Church is committed to biblical exposition and strives to inspire others to experience the joys of a relationship with Jesus Christ; and
WHEREAS, on October 11, 2015, Bethel Baptist Church commemorated its 175th anniversary with a day-long celebration, featuring Bible fellowship, a worship service, special guests, a dinner, and a concert by the worship choir and orchestra; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Bethel Baptist Church on the occasion of its 175th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Doug Echols, senior pastor of Bethel Baptist Church, as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for its long legacy of service to the Yorktown community.
