Celebrating the life of Dan Rudolph Lowe.

WHEREAS, Dan Rudolph Lowe, a veteran of the United States Navy and a longtime member of the School Board of the City of Virginia Beach who worked to create new opportunities for students, died on August 27, 2015; and

WHEREAS, a native of Graniteville, South Carolina, Dan Lowe was desirous to be of service to his country and joined the United States Navy; he served honorably for 21 years, including a tour of duty during the Korean War, and retired as a master chief; and

WHEREAS, after his retirement from the military, Dan Lowe continued to serve the country as a government employee for 25 years, and then worked to impart his lifelong love of learning to young men and women as a professor at Golden State University; and

WHEREAS, in 1998, Dan Lowe was elected to the School Board of the City of Virginia Beach, representing District 4 Bayside; he ran on a platform to achieve full accreditation for local schools, which became a reality in 2005; and

WHEREAS, over the course of his 11-year tenure with the School Board, Dan Lowe helped strengthen and enhance the school division by facilitating better communication with teachers and improving technology and dual-enrollment programs at the division’s academies; and

WHEREAS, Dan Lowe offered his leadership and expertise to the division as the chair of a committee to develop legislative priorities, chair of the City Council-School Board Capital Improvement Plan Modernization Review Committee, and a member of the City Council-School Board School Site Selection Committee and the superintendent search and contract review committee; and

WHEREAS, Dan Lowe will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife of 38 years, Wanda; children, Carolyn, Katherine, Cynthia, and Mark, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Dan Rudolph Lowe, a proud veteran and a dedicated servant to the youth of the Virginia Beach community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Dan Rudolph Lowe as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
