2015 SPECIAL SESSION I
WHEREAS, the Auburn High School girls’ tennis team of Montgomery County won the Virginia High School League Group 1A state title in June 2015; and
WHEREAS, the Auburn High School Eagles defeated the Radford High School Bobcats 5 - 4 in the tense contest at Radford University; and
WHEREAS, the Radford High School Bobcats took an early 2 - 0 lead in singles matches, but the Auburn High School Eagles rallied to tie the championship 3 - 3 going into doubles matches; and
WHEREAS, the state title came down to the final doubles match, with Meghan Epperly and Corey Altizer winning 6 - 3 in their first set and 7 - 5 in their third set to put Auburn High School ahead for the win; the duo finished the season with a perfect 23 - 0 record in doubles matches; and
WHEREAS, the victory is a testament to the skill and hard work of the athletes, the able leadership of the coaches and staff, and the energetic support of the entire Auburn High School community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Auburn High School girls’ tennis team hereby be commended on winning the 2015 Virginia High School League Group 1A state championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Conrad Nester, head coach of the Auburn High School girls’ tennis team, as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for the team’s achievements.
