2015 SPECIAL SESSION I
15200101DWHEREAS, Mary Gavin, Chief of the City of Falls Church Police Department, won a gold medal in the women’s triathlon at the 2015 World Police and Fire Games in Fairfax County; and
WHEREAS, established in 1985, the World Police and Fire Games bring together more than 12,000 law-enforcement officers and first responders from 70 countries to compete in more than 1,600 events; and
WHEREAS, competing in her first World Police and Fire Games, Mary Gavin took the gold in the women’s triathlon on July 3, 2015, at the Reston Triathlon course; the race consisted of a 1.5-kilometer swim, a 40-kilometer bike ride, and a 10-kilometer run; and
WHEREAS, Mary Gavin has served as Chief of the City of Falls Church Police Department since December 2012, when she became the second woman appointed as a chief of a police department in Northern Virginia; and
WHEREAS, an experienced and highly respected law-enforcement professional, Mary Gavin previously served as deputy chief of the City of Falls Church Police Department for five years and as an officer with the Arlington County Police Department for 22 years; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Mary Gavin hereby be commended on winning a gold medal in the women’s triathlon at the 2015 World Police and Fire Games; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Mary Gavin as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for her achievements and service to the community.
