HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 552
Commending Oscar Benitez.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, August 17, 2015

 

WHEREAS, Oscar Benitez, custodial manager at T. Clay Wood Elementary School, received a certificate of achievement and was named as an Unsung Hero by Prince William County Public Schools for his decisive actions to safeguard the school on October 20, 2014; and

WHEREAS, on the morning of October 20, 2014, Oscar Benitez discovered a suspicious vehicle parked in the school’s receiving area; and

WHEREAS, Oscar Benitez alerted school officials, who contacted the police and learned that the vehicle belonged to a suspect in a murder investigation; and

WHEREAS, thanks to Oscar Benitez’s actions, the school was able to institute lockdown procedures and divert buses and other morning arrivals to a safe location; and

WHEREAS, Oscar Benitez, who proudly considers the students, faculty, and staff of T. Clay Wood Elementary School as his second family, received the award at a special ceremony in December 2014; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Oscar Benitez hereby be commended for his actions to safeguard the students, faculty, and staff of T. Clay Wood Elementary School; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Oscar Benitez as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for his vigilance and quick thinking.
