HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 549
Celebrating the life of Christine J. Montgomery Herbstreith.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, August 17, 2015

 

WHEREAS, Christine J. Montgomery Herbstreith, an admired community leader in Lorton who dedicated her life to the service of others as a cofounder of the Lorton Community Action Center, died on June 4, 2015; and

WHEREAS, a native of Kingsport, Tennessee, Christine Herbstreith relocated to the Hallowing Point community in Lorton with her husband in 1954; she worked as a bus driver for Gunston Elementary School and was an active member of the local parent-teacher association; and

WHEREAS, desirous to be of service to members of the community in need, Christine Herbstreith worked with a group of concerned citizens in the 1970s to form the Lorton Community Action Center; and

WHEREAS, Christine Herbstreith offered her able leadership to the Lorton Community Action Center as director for more than 20 years, and she received the organization’s Founders Award in March 2015; and

WHEREAS, a woman who lived her faith through her actions, Christine Herbstreith enjoyed fellowship and worship with the community as a longtime member of Cranford United Methodist Church, where she sang with the choir for more than five decades; and

WHEREAS, predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Leroy, and two children, Leroy and Michelle, Christine Herbstreith will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her son, Michael; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Christine J. Montgomery Herbstreith, a hardworking community leader in Lorton; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Christine J. Montgomery Herbstreith as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for her memory.
