Celebrating the life of William Paul Graybeal.

WHEREAS, William Paul Graybeal of Meadowview, an admired educator, school administrator, and spiritual leader in Southwest Virginia, died on January 3, 2015; and

WHEREAS, a native of West Virginia, William “Bill” Paul Graybeal learned the value of hard work and responsibility at a young age, while working on his family’s farm; and

WHEREAS, Bill Graybeal graduated from Virginia Carolina High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from Emory & Henry College and a master’s degree from Radford University; he also attended seminary school at Duke University; and

WHEREAS, over the course of his 37-year career in education, Bill Graybeal motivated countless students in Smyth County; he taught at Riverside Elementary School and Chilhowie Elementary School and served as assistant principal and principal at Marion Intermediate School, where he also coordinated school bus routes and drivers; and

WHEREAS, Bill Graybeal was passionate about the preservation of American history, serving as president of the General William Campbell Chapter of the National Society, Sons of the American Revolution; and

WHEREAS, Bill Graybeal will be remembered for his portrayal of Reverend Charles Cummins, especially by students from across Southwest Virginia who attended the Call to Arms Colonial Education Program at the Abingdon Muster Grounds; and

WHEREAS, Bill Graybeal enjoyed fellowship and worship with the community as a member of Lebanon United Methodist Church, and he offered his inspirational leadership as pastor of several churches in the Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church; and

WHEREAS, Bill Graybeal will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his loving wife, Carol; daughter, Dawn, and her family; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of William Paul Graybeal, a respected educator, school administrator, and spiritual leader; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of William Paul Graybeal as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for his memory.
