Celebrating the life of William Rogers Henley, D.D.S.

WHEREAS, William Rogers Henley, D.D.S., of Bristol, Tennessee, a respected dentist and a former member of the Lebanon and Abingdon communities, died on March 16, 2015; and

WHEREAS, a native of Appalachia, William “Bill” Rogers Henley graduated from Appalachia High School, where he was a standout athlete in football, basketball, and baseball and was recognized for his exceptional aptitude in biology, chemistry, and physics; and

WHEREAS, Bill Henley earned a bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University, where he continued to play football and baseball, and a medical degree from what was then the Medical College of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, desirous to be of service to his country, Bill Henley joined the United States Air Force as a dentist and later rose to the rank of captain in the United States Air Force Reserve; and

WHEREAS, Bill Henley opened his own dental practice in Lebanon in 1959 and served the community until 1995, earning the respect of his peers and the trust and admiration of his patients; he also worked to enhance the quality of life of his fellow residents on the Lebanon Planning Commission; and

WHEREAS, Bill Henley enjoyed fellowship and worship at Lebanon Memorial United Methodist Church and Abingdon United Methodist Church; and

WHEREAS, predeceased by his wife, Jackie, Bill Henley will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his children, Kimberly, Phillip, Ellen, William, and their families and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of William Rogers Henley, D.D.S., a respected medical professional and community leader; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of William Rogers Henley, D.D.S., as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for his memory.
