Celebrating the life of Eva Burrell Brinkley.

WHEREAS, Eva Burrell Brinkley, a passionate educator in the City of Richmond and a loyal legislative aide in the Virginia General Assembly, died on February 18, 2015; and

WHEREAS, born in Henderson, North Carolina, Eva Brinkley moved with her family to Richmond when she was very young; she graduated from Armstrong High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from Hampton University; and

WHEREAS, striving to give young students a good foundation for lifelong learning, Eva Brinkley taught kindergarten at George Mason Elementary School, Amelia Street School, and Maymont Elementary School over the course of her 39-year career; and

WHEREAS, after her well-earned retirement as an educator, Eva Brinkley continued to serve the Commonwealth as a legislative aide in the Virginia General Assembly for 19 years; and

WHEREAS, Eva Brinkley also worked to strengthen and enhance the community through several local service organizations, and she enjoyed fellowship and worship as a lifelong member of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, where she held multiple leadership positions; and

WHEREAS, predeceased by her husband, Springarn, Eva Brinkley will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by numerous family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Eva Burrell Brinkley, a respected educator and a former legislative aide in the Virginia General Assembly; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Eva Burrell Brinkley as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for her memory.
