2015 SPECIAL SESSION I
WHEREAS, Harry English, Jr., a passionate educator and an active resident of Falls Church who worked to serve and strengthen the community, died on May 25, 2015; and
WHEREAS, a native of Washington, D.C., Harry English graduated from American University and followed in his father’s footsteps by pursuing a career in education; he helped inspire and motivate students at schools in Loudoun County and Washington, D.C.; and
WHEREAS, Harry English was well known locally as a botanist and enjoyed teaching friends about rare and obscure plants in his beautiful garden; he led efforts to beautify the city, facilitating the creation of West End Park and chairing the committee that planned landscape design with the city arborist; and
WHEREAS, a passionate historian, Harry English wrote a compendium on Victorian-era plants for the Victorian Society at Falls Church and was a lifetime member of the Village Preservation and Improvement Society; and
WHEREAS, Harry English enjoyed researching the history of Falls Church and its laws, and he put his knowledge to use as a frequent and respected speaker before city bodies; and
WHEREAS, Harry English will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife of 64 years, Madeline, and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Harry English, Jr., an educator and active leader in the Falls Church community; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Harry English, Jr., as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for his memory.
