2015 SPECIAL SESSION I
15200008DWHEREAS, Richard B. Kaufman, a devoted public servant who has worked to strengthen and enhance the Herndon community for more than two decades, retired as the town attorney of Herndon on June 30, 2015; and
WHEREAS, appointed by the Herndon Town Council to serve as town attorney on October 3, 1994, Richard Kaufman earned respect for his calm and humble demeanor, attention to detail, and commitment to excellent work; and
WHEREAS, Richard Kaufman assisted the Herndon Town Council by preparing and advancing legislative proposals in coordination with other localities and local entities; he also ensured the efficient operation of the town by providing practical solutions and legal support; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure, Richard Kaufman successfully managed numerous complex issues for the Town of Herndon, including the redevelopment of downtown and the Herndon Metro station area; and
WHEREAS, respected in the region and throughout the Commonwealth for his legal expertise, Richard Kaufman served with the Virginia Municipal League and the Local Government Attorneys of Virginia, Inc., and he has authored numerous articles on important legal issues; and
WHEREAS, Richard Kaufman is an exemplar of the dedication and hard work displayed by public servants around the Commonwealth and an embodiment of the spirit of Herndon; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Richard B. Kaufman, a true Virginia gentleman, hereby be commended on the occasion of his retirement as the town attorney of Herndon; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Richard B. Kaufman as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for his exceptional service to the Herndon community and best wishes on his retirement.
