2015 SPECIAL SESSION I
15200004DWHEREAS, Thomas Briggs Simmons, Jr., an active young leader in the Courtland community, attained the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America in 2015; and
WHEREAS, a senior at Southampton High School, Thomas Simmons is a longtime member of the soccer team and a diligent student; he is a member of the National Honor Society and has taken advanced courses through Paul D. Camp Community College for two years; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Simmons is a respected member of Troop 17 of the Boy Scouts of America, and he was selected by his fellow Scouts to become a member of the prestigious Order of the Arrow in April 2015; and
WHEREAS, to attain the rank of Eagle Scout, Thomas Simmons earned at least 21 merit badges and consistently demonstrated adherence to the ideals of Scout Spirit through his leadership, hard work, and service to the community; and
WHEREAS, as his Eagle Scout service project, Thomas Simmons helped install a flagpole and a flower bed with a masonry border at the Sebrell Community Center in northern Southampton County; the flagpole is easily visible by motorists on nearby Route 35; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Simmons was recognized for his accomplishments at an Eagle Scout Court of Honor ceremony on August 2, 2015; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Thomas Briggs Simmons, Jr., hereby be commended on achieving the rank of Eagle Scout; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Thomas Briggs Simmons, Jr., as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for his contributions to the community.
