2015 SESSION
WHEREAS, the James C. Archbell III Foundation in Chesapeake offers financial and educational assistance and spiritual encouragement to underprivileged children in Hampton Roads through several innovative and compassionate outreach efforts; and
WHEREAS, the James C. Archbell III Foundation (JCA Foundation) was established to help enhance the lives of children in the greater Hampton Roads area by providing hope and opportunity to them; and
WHEREAS, a soup kitchen and an annual Kidz Kruz holiday shopping spree are two of the JCA Foundation’s programs; the soup kitchen is dedicated to feeding those in need, serving hundreds of families at the Judeo-Christian Outreach Center in Virginia Beach; and
WHEREAS, the popular Kidz Kruz holiday shopping spree has been held for 10 years; the 2014 event brought more than 850 students and hundreds of volunteers to a Walmart in Chesapeake on December 7 for an afternoon of shopping, food, and fun; and
WHEREAS, for the event, the JCA Foundation arranges bus transportation from the students’ schools, $20 gift cards for each child, a pizza dinner, and a visit with Santa Claus and tops it off with a ride to the Virginia Beach oceanfront to see the McDonald’s Holiday Lights at the Beach spectacular; and
WHEREAS, local politicians and government officials are involved with Kidz Kruz; they take part in special drawings held on each bus—17 buses were used for the 2014 event—to give away two bicycles and two scooters per bus, all donated by the JCA Foundation; and
WHEREAS, the annual shopping spree and holiday festivities began 10 years ago with three buses; today, the JCA Foundation’s Kidz Kruz program has become the largest event of its kind in Tidewater Virginia and a joyous occasion for all involved; and
WHEREAS, James Archbell is the force behind the JCA Foundation; he is passionate about helping underprivileged children in Hampton Roads and steadfast in his belief that children are the future; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That the James C. Archbell III Foundation of Chesapeake hereby be commended for offering hope and opportunity to underprivileged children in Hampton Roads by providing educational, social, and financial support; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to an outstanding Virginian, James Archbell, founder of the James C. Archbell III Foundation, as an expression of the Senate of Virginia’s respect and admiration for his generosity and efforts to help underprivileged children, and families in need, in Hampton Roads.
