SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 68 Offered January 16, 2015 Commending the Richlands High School football team. ---------- Patron-- Chafin ----------

WHEREAS, the Richlands High School football team won the Virginia High School League Group 2A state quarterfinal on November 29, 2014; and

WHEREAS, finishing the regular season with a 7–3 overall record and a 3–0 conference record, the Richlands High School football team’s high-powered offense racked up an average of 33 points per game, led by senior quarterback River Michaels, who threw for over 1,500 yards; and

WHEREAS, the Richlands High School Blue Tornado defeated talented teams from Lebanon High School and Marion Senior High School in the first and second rounds of the playoffs; and

WHEREAS, the Richlands High School Blue Tornado defeated the Gate City Blue Devils 35–28 to advance to the Virginia High School League Group 2A state semifinal, where they faced the Wilson Memorial Green Hornets; and

WHEREAS, the successful season is a testament to the skill and dedication of the athletes, the leadership of the coaches and staff, and the enthusiastic support of the entire Richlands High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That the Richlands High School football team hereby be commended on winning the 2014 Virginia High School League Group 2A state quarterfinal; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Greg Mance, head coach of the Richlands High School football team, as an expression of the Senate of Virginia’s admiration for the team’s accomplishments.
