2015 SESSION
WHEREAS, Jill Branham won the 2014 Dickenson-Buchanan County Business Challenge and used the tools and talents learned during the challenge to open her own business; and
WHEREAS, the Dickenson-Buchanan County Business Challenge was established to support local entrepreneurs by People Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to building stronger communities and helping people achieve their dreams; and
WHEREAS, as part of the program, Jill Branham and the other entrants learned about marketing, cash flow planning, operations planning, E-commerce, credit management, and financing; and
WHEREAS, over the course of the eight-week program, Jill Branham and the other entrants developed and submitted business plans to a panel of three judges; and
WHEREAS, after presenting her business plan in November 2014, Jill Branham received the first-place award and a cash prize to invest in her business; and
WHEREAS, the victory allowed Jill Branham to achieve her dream of entrepreneurship; she opened Main Street Pizzeria and Grill in Haysi on December 8, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Jill Branham is an exemplar of the hard work and dedication shown by Virginian entrepreneurs and small business owners, whose tireless efforts strengthen their communities and ensure economic growth throughout the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Jill Branham hereby be commended on winning the Dickenson-Buchanan County Business Challenge and opening her own restaurant; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Jill Branham as an expression of the Senate of Virginia’s admiration for her achievements and best wishes for the future.
