15105089DWHEREAS, Albert Jack Stodghill of Hilton Village, the first planning director of the City of Newport News, who made many lasting contributions to the city and the Commonwealth, was named a Fellow of the American Institute of Certified Planners in 2014; and
WHEREAS, the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) is the nation’s leading institute for the education and certification of professional planners; it also provides leadership in the areas of ethics, professional development, and standards of practice in city planning; and
WHEREAS, Jack Stodghill was named a Fellow of the AICP for his contributions to the planning field and exceptional achievements in professional practice, teaching and mentoring, research, public and community service, and leadership; and
WHEREAS, as the first planning director for the City of Newport News, Jack Stodghill led the city into the 21st century with his vision and innovative programs; he planned Oyster Point, which is now the city’s central business district; and
WHEREAS, Jack Stodghill also planned Newport News Park, one of the largest municipal parks in the country, and the Hilton Village Historic District, which was recognized by the American Planning Association as one of the Great Places in America; and
WHEREAS, as a longtime planning consultant, Jack Stodghill developed planning and zoning projects that strengthened Virginia communities and helped preserve the Chesapeake Bay’s valuable natural resources throughout his distinguished 35-year career; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Albert Jack Stodghill hereby be commended on his selection as a Fellow of the American Institute of Certified Planners in 2014; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Albert Jack Stodghill as an expression of the Senate of Virginia’s admiration for his contributions to the City of Newport News and leadership in the planning field.
