15105136DWHEREAS, in 2015, Jerry M. Jenkins, a grain producer and former tobacco farmer in Lunenburg County, received an award from the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation for his 40 years of service to the organization and countless contributions to agriculture in the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, an experienced and respected farmer, Jerry Jenkins began his career in agriculture as a Virginia Cooperative Extension agent in Gloucester County; he began farming in 1963 and served as a teacher in the Counties of Brunswick and Nottoway; and
WHEREAS, Jerry Jenkins further cultivated his farming expertise as the supervisor of tobacco production for British American Tobacco in Venezuela; he served as president of the Lunenburg County Farm Bureau; and
WHEREAS, as District 11 director of the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation (VFBF), the Commonwealth’s largest farmers’ advocacy group, Jerry Jenkins has ably represented farmers and producers in the Counties of Brunswick, Charlotte, Lunenburg, and Mecklenburg for four decades; and
WHEREAS, Jerry Jenkins offers his wise leadership to the VFBF as chair of the Flue-Cured Tobacco Advisory Committee, and he is a member of the Soybean and Feed Grains and Grain Marketing Advisory Committee; and
WHEREAS, Jerry Jenkins has served the Commonwealth as a former member of the Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission; and
WHEREAS, Jerry Jenkins received the award at the VFBF board meeting in Richmond on January 28, 2015; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Jerry M. Jenkins on receiving an award for his 40 years of service to the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Jerry M. Jenkins as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for his work to protect Virginia’s farms and help ensure a fresh, safe, locally grown food supply in the Commonwealth.
