15105382DWHEREAS, David Stuart Buchanan, Sr., a dedicated community leader and volunteer, has devoted his life to serving and supporting his fellow Mecklenburg County residents; and
WHEREAS, a native of Clarksville, Stuart Buchanan learned the value of hard work and responsibility while working at his father’s construction company; he attended the University of Richmond and served his country as a member of the United States Air Force during the Korean War; and
WHEREAS, Stuart Buchanan enjoyed a long and successful career with State Farm Insurance Company; he worked as an insurance agent in Clarksville, then opened a branch in Chase City, where he retired in 1995; and
WHEREAS, Stuart Buchanan is admired for his tireless community service; he has been active with Jaycees at local and state levels and was a former commander of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars Post and a former chair of the Mecklenburg County Social Services Board; and
WHEREAS, Stuart Buchanan and his late daughter, Julie, helped construct the Clarksville Enrichment Complex, which now houses the Clarksville YMCA and a distance learning center; and
WHEREAS, Stuart Buchanan chaired the project to construct the Mecklenburg County Veterans Memorial Monument; he drew plans, raised funds, and oversaw construction of the monument, which he personally cares for and maintains; and
WHEREAS, Stuart Buchanan and his wife, Marianne, have been married for 59 years and are the proud parents of Julie, who passed away in 2011, David, and Beth; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend David Stuart Buchanan, Sr., a dedicated community leader and volunteer in Mecklenburg County; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to David Stuart Buchanan, Sr., as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for his legacy of service to the community.
