WHEREAS, Laura Puleo, a law student at Washington and Lee University, was crowned Miss Virginia USA 2015 before an energetic crowd at the Paramount Theater in Charlottesville in November 2014; and

WHEREAS, a resident of Lexington, Laura Puleo graduated cum laude from Duke University in 2012 with degrees in Latin and Ancient Greek; she considered careers in academia and law before attending the Washington and Lee University Law School, where she is currently in her third year; and

WHEREAS, a responsible and trustworthy student, Laura Puleo was elected as a representative to the Washington and Lee University Executive Committee, the student-run body charged with upholding the Honor System and allocating hundreds of thousands of dollars to student organizations each year; and

WHEREAS, during her reign, Laura Puleo will travel throughout the Commonwealth to promote her concept of modern womanhood, as well as supporting and building confidence for other young women and girls as they work to establish their own identities; and

WHEREAS, an experienced pageant competitor, Laura Puleo was the 2nd runner-up for Miss Virginia USA 2014 and Miss North Carolina USA 2012 and a top-10 finisher in Miss North Carolina USA 2013; and

WHEREAS, as the fourth of six children, Laura Puleo cares deeply for her family and enjoyed the enthusiastic support of her parents, siblings, and other family members and friends throughout the state competition; and

WHEREAS, Laura Puleo will represent the Commonwealth in the 2015 Miss USA competition, which will be televised nationally; and

WHEREAS, a woman of intelligence, talent, and dedication, Laura Puleo is an exceptional ambassador for the Commonwealth and a role model for other young women; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Laura Puleo on her selection as Miss Virginia USA 2015; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Laura Puleo as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and admiration for her many accomplishments.
