Commending Elaine K. Echols.

WHEREAS, Elaine K. Echols of Stuarts Draft, the principal planner for Albemarle County, was named a Fellow of the American Institute of Certified Planners in 2014; and

WHEREAS, the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) is the nation’s leading institute for the education and certification of professional planners; it provides leadership in the areas of ethics, professional development, and standards of practice in community planning; and

WHEREAS, Elaine Echols was named a Fellow of the AICP for her contributions to the planning field and exceptional achievements in professional practice, teaching and mentoring, research, public and community service, and leadership; and

WHEREAS, with more than 30 years of experience in the field, Elaine Echols has promoted inclusiveness, education, and good planning practices in Texas and the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, Elaine Echols helped enhance the Albemarle County community through her nationally recognized Neighborhood Model of urban design; she also designed plans for bikeways and walkways that have made Blacksburg safer for pedestrians and cyclists; and

WHEREAS, a devoted volunteer and a trusted mentor and teacher, Elaine Echols works to impart her knowledge and experience to students and fellow planning commissioners through classes and presentations; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Elaine K. Echols on her selection as a Fellow of the American Institute of Certified Planners in 2014; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Elaine K. Echols as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for her contributions to Albemarle County and leadership in the planning field.
