Celebrating the life of Charles L. Moseley.

WHEREAS, Charles L. Moseley of Chesapeake, pastor emeritus of Great Bridge Baptist Church, a man of great faith, who touched thousands of lives during his five decades as a church leader and who was a proud veteran of the United States military, died on January 11, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Charles Moseley was born in Camden, South Carolina, and felt the call to ministry when he was a young man; after pursuing an associate’s degree from Wingate Junior College, which is now Wingate University, and a bachelor’s degree from Coker College, he entered Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he earned a second bachelor’s degree; and

WHEREAS, Charles Moseley preached at many churches while he was studying at seminary and became pastor of two small churches in Dillon County, South Carolina; during this period, he met his future wife, Louise, who was director of education at First Baptist Church of Dillon; and

WHEREAS, in 1958, Charles Moseley and his wife moved to Valdese, North Carolina, where he became pastor of Abee’s Grove Baptist Church; a few years later, he began a ministry at First Baptist Church of Carthage, North Carolina; and

WHEREAS, Charles Moseley was called to serve at Great Bridge Baptist Church in 1969, which was in a rural area near Norfolk; he led the church for 38 years during a time of tremendous growth and provided inspiring spiritual leadership; and

WHEREAS, during his time in Chesapeake, Charles Moseley earned a master’s degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary; he also proudly served in the National Guard for many years, retiring from the United States Army Reserve after 23 years of service; and

WHEREAS, throughout his ministry, Charles Moseley stressed that he was foremost a pastor, serving people whatever their needs were; he reached out to members during their times of greatest need—marriage; birth; death; in periods of crisis, sickness, sorrow, and fear; and in times of joy; and

WHEREAS, in addition to Louise, his wife of 57 years, Charles Moseley will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by his children, Chuck, Marty, Barry, Melanie, and Chris, and their families; and many other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Charles L. Moseley of Chesapeake, pastor emeritus of Great Bridge Baptist Church, a man of great faith who touched thousands of lives during a long and distinguished career as a church leader, and a proud veteran of the United States military; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Charles L. Moseley as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
