Commending Francis C. Steinbauer.

WHEREAS, Francis C. Steinbauer was honored by the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce and Cornerstones, Inc., with a prestigious 2015 Best of Reston Award in the Individual Community Leader category; and

WHEREAS, the Best of Reston awards honor individuals, organizations, and companies that have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to helping others and improving the lives of people throughout the greater Reston area; and

WHEREAS, as one of the original members of the Reston development team, Francis “Fran” Steinbauer has had a unique role as a planner, manager, and leader in the community for more than 50 years; and

WHEREAS, in Reston’s early days, Fran Steinbauer served as a liaison to local government, state agencies, and development companies; he offered his leadership and expertise directly as the president of the Reston Land Corporation; and

WHEREAS, as president of the Reston Homeowners Association (now Reston Association) board of directors, Fran Steinbauer ensured that the needs and concerns of residents would be met by transitioning the association from developer control to homeowner control; and

WHEREAS, as president of Reston Interfaith Housing Corporation, Fran Steinbauer directed programs to acquire and renovate affordable housing options in the Herndon and Reston areas; he worked tirelessly to ensure that low-income families had a place to call home; and

WHEREAS, Fran Steinbauer has served as chair of the Reston Interfaith board of directors and Route 28 Tax District Advisory Board, vice president of the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce board of directors, vice chair of the Fairfax County Affordable Dwelling Units Advisory Board, founder of the Reston Youth Athletic Association, and a trustee of Reston/Herndon FISH; and

WHEREAS, respected for his professionalism, generosity, and passion for service, Fran Steinbauer has been a strong advocate for members of the community in need and a pivotal leader in Reston; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Francis C. Steinbauer for his efforts to support and strengthen the community and on his well-deserved honor as a 2015 Best of Reston Award recipient in the Individual Community Leader category; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Francis C. Steinbauer as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for his enduring commitment to making Reston a special place in which to live, work, and play.
