WHEREAS, Brock Anthony Michael Funk, a teacher at Castlewood Elementary School, who was an exceptional baseball player at Grayson County High School and the University of Virginia’s College at Wise, a man of great faith, and a loving husband and father, died on January 16, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Brock Funk, who was born in Galax and reared in Fries, was a 2004 graduate of Grayson County High School; he played varsity football and basketball and was a standout baseball pitcher who as a senior was named the Virginia High School League’s Group A player of the year; and
WHEREAS, after high school, Brock Funk attended the University of Virginia’s College at Wise and helped lead the school’s baseball team to two consecutive regional tournaments; he ranks second in school history for pitching wins, with a collegiate won-lost record of 23–10; and
WHEREAS, a focused and intimidating competitor during a game, when he was off the field Brock Funk was kindhearted, low-key, and generous, with an amiable and humble nature; friends, former coaches, and opposing players remember his extraordinary talent and his laid-back demeanor; and
WHEREAS, a man of great faith throughout his life, Brock Funk found fulfillment in worship and fellowship at Mills Chapel Church in Castlewood, where he was a member; and
WHEREAS, Brock Funk, who was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Atley Grace, will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by his wife, Terri Anne, and his children Zoey and Ezekiel; and by many other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Brock Anthony Michael Funk, a teacher at Castlewood Elementary School, who was an exceptional student athlete at Grayson County High School and the University of Virginia’s College at Wise, a man of great faith, and a loving husband and father; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Brock Anthony Michael Funk as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
