15100861DWHEREAS, James Orie McReynolds, a dedicated civil servant who helped enhance the quality of life of his fellow residents as the longtime York County administrator, died on October 19, 2014; and
WHEREAS, a native of Newport News, James “Mac” McReynolds was raised in Hampton and graduated from Bethel High School; he earned a bachelor’s degree from The College of William and Mary, where he began his professional career as the assistant director of general accounting; and
WHEREAS, desirous to be of service to the members of the York County community, Mac McReynolds pursued employment with the county as an accountant in 1983, and he became the director of budget and accounting in 1998; and
WHEREAS, in 1992, Mac McReynolds was promoted to director of financial and management services; he was officially appointed county administrator in May 2001; and
WHEREAS, holding the office for longer than any of his predecessors, Mac McReynolds supported valuable public safety initiatives, facilitated the transformation of the Yorktown waterfront into a mixed-use commercial area, and maintained the county’s AAA bond rating; and
WHEREAS, by his visionary leadership and responsible fiscal stewardship, Mac McReynolds ensured a strong future for the York County community and leaves a legacy of excellence for his successor as administrator; and
WHEREAS, Mac McReynolds will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Pam; children, James and Melissa, and their families; and numerous other family members, friends, and members of the community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of James Orie McReynolds, a dedicated civil servant and respected leader in the York County community; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of James Orie McReynolds as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
