SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 322
Commending Paul D. Camp Community College.

WHEREAS, for ten years, Paul D. Camp Community College in Franklin has provided students with the tools and knowledge to serve others as practitioners of technical nursing; and

WHEREAS, the General Assembly established in 1966 a statewide system of community colleges in the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, the Governor heralded the creation of the community college system by the General Assembly as “one of its finest acts and finest hours in this century”; and

WHEREAS, Paul D. Camp Community College officially opened for the 1971–1972 academic year and is now a multi-campus institution serving a geographic region comprising the communities of the Counties of Southampton and Isle of Wight and the Cities of Franklin and Suffolk; and

WHEREAS, Paul D. Camp Community College has served more than 40,000 students in credit and noncredit coursework in its history; and

WHEREAS, Paul D. Camp Community College established its own nursing program in the 2004–2005 academic year and has graduated more than 300 students from the program; graduates of the program have remained committed to the service and well-being of their local communities and excelled in the health care careers within those communities; and

WHEREAS, Paul D. Camp Community College’s mission is to provide diverse learning opportunities to enhance the quality of life for students and the community; and

WHEREAS, Paul D. Camp Community College supports economic development and provides world-class workforce training and services and offers many career opportunities in both the public and private sectors through its nursing and allied health programs; and

WHEREAS, Paul D. Camp Community College continues to strive to meet the aspirations of its namesake to provide “a practical and economic answer to the future educational needs of thousands of Virginians”; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Paul D. Camp Community College on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of its nursing program; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Paul W. Conco, president of Paul D. Camp Community College, as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations on this historic milestone.
