SENATE BILL NO. 1116 AMENDMENT IN THE NATURE OF A SUBSTITUTE (Proposed by the Senate Committee on/for Education and Health on January 29, 2015) (Patron Prior to Substitute--Senator Barker)  A BILL to direct the Department of Education to request a waiver authorizing the use of an alternative test.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. § 1. The Department of Education shall request a waiver under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965, as amended, authorizing the use of an English language proficiency assessment such as the WIDA ACCESS for ELLs assessment as an alternative to the Eleventh Grade Standards of Learning End-of-Course English: Reading test for students with limited English proficiency.
