Commending Carolee Cooke.

WHEREAS, Carolee Cooke, who has worked for the United States Department of Veterans Affairs for 50 years, retired on February 12, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Carolee Cooke spent most of her career as a publications clerk at the Martinsburg VA Medical Center (VAMC), which serves members of the military in Clarke, Fauquier, Frederick, Page, Rappahannock, Rockingham, Shenandoah, and Warren Counties and the Cities of Harrisonburg and Winchester; and

WHEREAS, most of Carolee Cooke’s career at the VAMC was in the Education Learning Resources Services and Medical Administration Services departments; when she first started work at the medical center in  1965, she was a perk clerk in the dietetics section, serving coffee to veterans directly from a conveyor belt; and

WHEREAS, Carolee Cooke held several other positions during her career with the Department of Veterans Affairs; she worked on the telephone switchboard as a relief operator and also was a teletype operator; and

WHEREAS, working alongside veterans was Carolee Cooke’s favorite part of her work, and she found it gratifying to see members of the military make progress; some patients at the VAMC take part in an in-house vocational rehabilitation program to help prepare them for competitive employment in the future; and

WHEREAS, in retirement, Carolee Cooke looks forward to traveling with her two daughters and working with her church; she said she will miss her routine at VAMC and the daily contact with friends and coworkers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Carolee Cooke hereby be commended on the occasion of her retirement after 50 years of dedicated service at the Martinsburg VA Medical Center; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Carolee Cooke as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect and admiration for her commitment and service to our nation’s veterans.
