HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 302
Commending the Vienna Woman's Club.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 27, 2015

 

WHEREAS, in 2015, the Vienna Woman’s Club celebrates its 60th anniversary as a service and civic organization for the people of Vienna and the surrounding Fairfax County community; and

WHEREAS, throughout its history, the members of the Vienna Woman’s Club have supported the Vienna community in many ways; they helped establish the Patrick Henry Library and donated funds in support of the Vienna Community Center; and

WHEREAS, for many years, the Vienna Woman’s Club has awarded college scholarships to local high school seniors; the organization also donates money to elementary schools in Vienna for students at risk; and

WHEREAS, members of the Vienna Woman’s Club have held fundraising events on behalf of cancer research and for various organizations, including Final Salute, Inc., which aids homeless women veterans, and Companions for Heroes, a group that matches shelter dogs with returning combat veterans; the club also has supported Alternative House in its work with at-risk children and their families; and

WHEREAS, additionally, the Vienna Woman’s Club makes contributions to the Lamb Center, provides volunteers to work at the Food for Others warehouse, donates funds to Our Daily Bread, helps with activities at a local nursing home, and provides winter coats to less fortunate children; and

WHEREAS, for many years, the members of the Vienna Woman’s Club have worked behind the scenes at the popular Holiday Sing-A-Long, which is held at the Filene Center at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Vienna Woman’s Club hereby be commended on the occasion of its 60th anniversary as a service and civic organization serving the people of Vienna and the surrounding Fairfax County community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the president of the Vienna Woman’s Club as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect and admiration for its work on behalf of the residents of Vienna and Fairfax County.
