2015 SESSION
WHEREAS, the Clarke County High School wrestling team claimed its first state title, winning the Virginia High School League Group 2A state championship on February 20, 2015; and
WHEREAS, the Clarke County High School wrestling team earned 121 points to top Grundy High School, the defending champions, by 2.5 points in the tense state final; Mark Alexander clinched the victory with his win in the third-place match of the 220-pound final; and
WHEREAS, the Clarke County High School Eagles stayed focused, even after the two-day event was condensed to one day due to inclement weather; the team had two individual champions, with Bayne Gordon winning in the 120-pound final and Bryan Wallace winning in the 182-pound final; and
WHEREAS, three of the Clarke County High School Eagles finished in second place in their class, Cody Schneeman, Brendan Ciaburri, and Logan Withers; and
WHEREAS, the victory is a testament to the skill and hard work of the student-athletes, the dedicated leadership of the coaches and staff, and the loyal support of the entire Clarke County High School community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Clarke County High School wrestling team hereby be commended on winning the 2015 Virginia High School League Group 2A state championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Jon Van Sice, head coach of the Clarke County High School wrestling team, as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for the team’s achievements and best wishes for the future.
