15105438DWHEREAS, the Dulles South Food Pantry is a multifaith organization that provides nutritious food, personal supplies, and other services to people in need, regardless of their income, religious affiliation, or other criteria; and
WHEREAS, the Dulles South Food Pantry, which opened in June 2014, is located at the historic white Chapel at Arcola United Methodist Church in Dulles; it serves Loudoun County residents who live in the Dulles South area; and
WHEREAS, the Dulles South Food Pantry is an all-volunteer organization that focuses on feeding the hungry and promoting the self-sufficiency of those who receive assistance from the food pantry; volunteers also have helped customers with writing resumes and cover letters; and
WHEREAS, many area residents make food and tax-deductible monetary donations to the Dulles South Food Pantry, and caring volunteers help ensure that the food pantry runs smoothly; children as young as 10—if they are accompanied by a volunteering parent—also are welcome to help at the food pantry; and
WHEREAS, the Dulles South Food Pantry gladly accepts donations of nonperishable food and also accepts produce and bakery items on the first, third, and fifth Wednesdays of the month, which are the days that the pantry distributes food; and
WHEREAS, since it opened, the Dulles South Food Pantry has provided food assistance to more than 130 family households in the Dulles South area; nearly half of the food pantry’s guests are younger than 17; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Dulles South Food Pantry hereby be commended for its work to feed those who are hungry in the Dulles South area and to promote self-sufficiency among those who use its services; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Charlene Jones, president of the Dulles South Food Pantry, as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect and admiration for the organization’s work to help those who are hungry and in need in the Dulles South area.
