HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 281
Commending the Fauquier High School wrestling team.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 25, 2015

 

WHEREAS, the Fauquier High School wrestling team won the 2015 Virginia High School League Group 4A wrestling championship on February 20, 2015; and

WHEREAS, it was the first state title for the Fauquier High School wrestlers, who in recent years have been a member of wrestling’s top tier among Group 4A schools; the team has placed in the top 10 for the last eight seasons and was state champion runner up twice; and

WHEREAS, the Fauquier High School Falcons defeated a talented second-place team from Hanover High School—129 points to 105 points—to clinch the state title at the meet, which was held at the Salem Civic Center; and

WHEREAS, the Fauquier High School wrestlers had lost to Hanover High School in 2014 by a close margin in team standings, 96 points to 90.5 points, and were extremely motivated to win in 2015; the wrestlers were disciplined and focused throughout the entire 2014 – 2015 season; and

WHEREAS, six of the nine wrestlers on the Fauquier High School wrestling team participated in the state finals, and three of the school’s participants took home a second individual state title at the 2015 state championship; Daniel Ariola was the winner of the 120-pound weight class, Matt Raines won the 138-pound weight class, and Garrett Tingen was the winner of the 152-pound weight class; and

WHEREAS, Doug Fisher, head coach of the Fauquier High School wrestling team, said that the team’s strong foundation was a factor in winning the championship; some members of the team come from families with a long tradition of high school wrestling; and

WHEREAS, the members of the Fauquier High School wrestling team worked hard throughout the season; the team also drew great support and encouragement from their families and from the entire Fauquier High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Fauquier High School wrestling team hereby be commended for winning the 2015 Virginia High School League Group 4A wrestling championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Doug Fisher, head coach of the the Fauquier High School wrestling team, as an expression of the House of Delegates’ congratulations and admiration for the team’s outstanding accomplishment.
