HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 273
Commending The Improvement Association.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 25, 2015

 

WHEREAS, The Improvement Association, established in 1968, is a Community Action Agency working to alleviate the causes of poverty in the Counties of Dinwiddie, Sussex, Surry, Greensville, and Brunswick and the City of Emporia; and

WHEREAS, The Improvement Association has been providing Head Start services in Southside Virginia since 1998; and

WHEREAS, Head Start is a national, federally funded program that provides comprehensive early childhood education, health, nutrition, and parent involvement services to low-income children and their families; 2015 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Head Start; and

WHEREAS, The Improvement Association provides comprehensive Head Start services in the Counties of Dinwiddie, Sussex, Surry, Greensville, and Brunswick and the City of Emporia; and

WHEREAS, The Improvement Association facilitates increased school readiness for 262 Head Start children annually; and

WHEREAS, The Improvement Association leverages community resources to ensure that Head Start children receive age-appropriate health screenings; and

WHEREAS, The Improvement Association leverages community resources to ensure that the parents or guardians of Head Start children receive comprehensive services related to education, employment, and permanent housing; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That The Improvement Association hereby be commended for its many years of service to the Commonwealth as a Head Start provider; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to The Improvement Association as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for its many contributions to children and families in Southside Virginia.
