15104811DWHEREAS, the winners of the 2014 Pete Shepherd Volunteer Public Water Access Service Award, a team of volunteers who clean and care for Perrin Wharf, have carried out exceptional service to the residents of and visitors to Gloucester County; and
WHEREAS, the Pete Shepherd Volunteer Public Water Access Service Award is presented by the Middle Peninsula Chesapeake Bay Public Access Authority (MPCBPAA) to recognize the efforts of an individual or team of volunteers who support the organization’s mission to ensure safe public access to the waterways of the Middle Peninsula; and
WHEREAS, the award is named for Pete Shepherd, the owner of Shepherd’s Waterfront Properties in Gloucester County and the first volunteer for the MPCBPAA in 2003, who has logged countless hours of generous service to the community throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, the award-winning team, which is made up of Carmen L. Haywood, Susan Haywood Jenkins, Corin Barbour, Eva Sanders, Holly Jenkins-McCook, and Chris McCook, regularly visits Perrin Wharf to collect and dispose of trash, collecting approximately 30 bags of trash each year; and
WHEREAS, the winners of the inaugural Pete Shepherd Volunteer Public Water Access Service Award have donated their time and talents to ensure that Perrin Wharf in Gloucester County remains clean and presentable as a commercial seafood wharf and public access site; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the winners of the 2014 Pete Shepherd Volunteer Public Water Access Service Award hereby be commended for their dedicated service to Gloucester County; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the winners of the Pete Shepherd Volunteer Public Water Access Service Award as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the team’s commitment to preserving the environment and natural resources of the Middle Peninsula.
